REGIONAL LEAGUES

Regional Leagues

The WFA support 6 Regional League competitions to help provide competitive opportunities on a “local” level. These leagues are independent leagues with their own committees and league structures. These competitions then provide teams with a route to National League qualification.

At present, the Regional Leagues are:

  • South East PFL

  • North East PFL

  • South West PFL

  • West Midlands PFL

  • North West PFL

  • East Midlands PFL

Regional Leagues

West Midlands Regional League

The West Midlands Powerchair Regional League (WMPRL) is now in its fifth season in its current identity having previously been run as The Birmingham Ability Counts League.

The WMPRL has developed into the countries largest regional competition, with around 100 players from 19 teams competing across three WMPRL Divisions; Premiership, Championship and League One. 


South East Regional League

The South East Powerchair Football League (SEPFL) has been running since 2013 and is the second-largest regional league in the country. The SEPFL have around 70 players in 14 teams across the South East of England, with clubs from Poole in Dorset to Norwich in Norfolk.

The teams compete in 2 divisions with promotion and relegation and the opportunity for the highest finishing team, not already competing in the WFA national league, to go forward to the national league playoffs.


North East Regional League

The North East Powerchair Football League was formed in 2013, with its first competitive season being held in 2013/2014. The league currently consists of twelve teams from six member clubs who are split across two divisions; NE Premiership and NE Championship based on ability.


North West Regional League

The North West Powerchair Football League began in 2009 and has recently celebrated ten years of competition. The format of the league has changed over the years to support the needs of the clubs in the NorthWest. The league’s focus is now facilitating the participation and development of players and teams.


East Midlands Regional League


South West Regional League

The South West Powerchair Football league was set up in 2015 by Helen Phelps-Starbuck, who founded Ocean City PFC. Helen recognised a need for a league in the South West and it was started to enable individuals with physical disabilities from across the South West to come together and compete in a Powerchair Football League.
