History of the WFA Cup

Aspire PFC with the Brian Aarons trophy
Aspire PFC celebrate winning the Brian Aarons trophy in June 2010

For the 2009/10 Season the WFA, with the support of the Brian Aarons Foundation, launched a National knock-out competition for all National League teams to compete in. As well as the WFA Cup, the WFA Plate competition also was played. During the 2009/10 League Season all Cup and Plate fixtures were played and the Finals were played at the last weekend event.

As with the magic of all Cup competitions, there were some great matches and both finals were extremely tight and hard fought games. Eventually Aspire PFC were crowned winners of the Brian Aarons trophy, with Evergreen becoming the first winners of the WFA Plate.

This new format added something special for the Players and this competition will now take place annually. The 2011/12 Cup competition will see it expanded to include all affiliated Clubs and see it go "on the road" to follow in the tradition of the FA Cup.
