Regional Leagues
The Wheelchair Football Association are supporting the development of Regional Powerchair Football Leagues. As the number of Clubs and Teams continue to grow, the WFA aims to offer a number of competitive playing opportunities.
A number of the Regional Leagues are in their early stages and will only operate on a "friendly" basis. This is to provide new Clubs and Players with the opportunity to gain experience and the game to develop.
It is hoped these leagues will eventually become established and provide a league structure to feed and service the WFA National League competitions.
Northern League
This is very much still in its infancy and planning stage.
If you, or your Club would like to become involved in the development of this league, please email admin@thewfa.org.uk.
North West Regional League
The North West Powerchair Football League is now in place and has a constitution, bank account and sponsorship for at least the first 2 years. Bolton Bullets have entered 2 teams and Everton entered 3 teams, but they wanted to play at a lower speed so that everyone is on a level playing field.
Therefore, for the first season all matches are being played with a speed restriction of 6.4km/h and the first event was at held at Smithills Sports Centre, Bolton on 25th October. The next event is at Greenbank Sports Academy, Liverpool on 21st March. The league will be reviewed again in May 2010, when other new teams in the north west will have been established.
If you, or your Club would like to become involved in the development of this league, please email Mark Clayton at markclayton@ntlworld.com.
The Greater Midlands Regional League
The Greater Midlands Regional League Committee are going to organise a number of events to promote and make aware to powerchair users there is an opportunity to play football in the region.
