WFA Football Foundation Project
The WFA have been awarded £135,000 from the Football Foundation towards a total project cost of £256,000 over 3 years.
The project received partnership funding from Invacare UK, The FA, Davies Sports and The WFA.
The project includes a Full Time National Wheelchair Football Development Manager, to develop the “grass-roots” element of Powerchair Football in England. This post will also have access to a vehicle, a set of powerchairs and a variety of equipment to support delivery of events across the country.
Each year the WFA will have a number of "Priority Areas” for the project where we will focus our development work.
The project has a number of targets by the end of the three years:
- A minimum of 4 Clubs in each of the 8 FA regions.
- Increase in the number of players taking part.
- Players training to become athletes.
- Increase in the number of competitive leagues.
- Increased education and skilled workforce.
- Players performing at the different levels of the Player pathway.
- Increased awareness of the sport.
- Increased investment into Powerchair Football.
- Create a sustainable infrastructure for the sport.

At present there are a number of targets that we are working towards:
Develop a minimum of four Clubs in each of the 8 FA Regions.
These Clubs will form the basis of the regional activity and start to provide competitive opportunities on a “local” level.
Use a vehicle, a set of powerchairs and equipment to deliver activity and support new clubs to form.
Using this equipment we will be promoting the sport at events and supporting new clubs to generate interest.
Coach and Referee education
The results of the audit showed a need for Coach and Referee education, so the WFA will be looking to develop a schedule of courses over the coming season.

Funding and sponsorship
The WFA are constantly looking at ways to increase investment into our sport. This is via new funding streams and projects and maybe at a National, regional or club level. The WFA offer a variety of sponsorship packages, including the National Team and the National League.
Club development
It is vitally important that our clubs are well established and sustainable in the long term. By working with the clubs, we can share “best practice” and ensure they are following the latest legislation. We are working with the FA to encourage Clubs to achieve FA Charter Standard to aid this process.
Working with Partners
The WFA currently works with a number of partner organisations. We are looking to build and develop these relationships in order to maximise our impact and continue the development of the sport.
